ALERT: VISA FRAUD IN THE UNITED KINGDOM IS ON THE RISE.
On Wednesday, the British high commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, issued a warning about a UK visa fraud, noting that bogus permits issued online to applicants using his name are on the rise.
In addition, he cautioned applicants to be wary of deals that appear “too good to be true.” The information comes just two days after the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom confirmed the return of e-Visa service in India.
Ellis informed me in a tweet thread that there has been an uptick in UK visa fraud involving my identity. He cautioned candidates to be wary of three circumstances that could prove to be traps.
• If it sounds too good to be true, such as a simple job in the United Kingdom or an easy means to obtain a UK visa,
• If you are assured of obtaining a UK visa using the scammer’s documentation.
• If you receive an email or phone request for money, do not reveal your credit card or bank account information. We will never request that you make payments to personal accounts.
Additionally, the official stated that phony websites are created to resemble those of the British government or its genuine visa-inquiring services. The suffix ‘.gov.uk’ is always appended to the website addresses of all official UK government sites.
He says that scammers may contact you via Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, or Gmail while impersonating UKVI or VFS employees.
On Monday, India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Vikram K. Doraiswami, said that the e-Visa option for British people traveling to India will be reinstated.
Doraiswami stated that the service will be made available to citizens immediately and that the dates will be disclosed in the near future. He said that when the service starts up again, it will be much easier for British friends to go to India.
“We are reintroducing e-visas, and this service will be made available to you immediately. (Dates will soon be revealed.) This should greatly facilitate the travel of British friends to India. Also, e-visas are on the horizon, and all of our other services, including visas at your doorstep, will continue to be accessible to you. “We anticipate a pleasant winter season during which everyone in India, the nation of festivals, will celebrate their own holidays,” said the High Commissioner.
