As of November 9, 2022, Peru and Colombia will be among the nations that no longer require a visa to visit the United Kingdom (UK).
Citizens from both countries will be able to visit the UK for up to six months under this exemption.
However, visas are still required for anyone who wishes to study, work, or settle in the United Kingdom for longer than six months.
The goal of this move is to improve relations between the UK and these countries, as well as to boost tourism and other business, cultural, and academic exchanges.
On Monday, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, tweeted the news first, “Colombia very much welcomes the decision made by the UK to lift the visit visa requirement for Colombian nationals.” This will facilitate our compatriots to learn more about this vibrant nation. Such policy speaks very highly of the great state of the bilateral relationship”.
The British ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook, also expressed gratitude and referred to this as a new chapter in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Eliminating the need for a visa for short stays will make it easier for people to participate in short-term academic exchanges, business meetings, and conferences, as well as visit family in the U.K.
