Rishi Sunak approves 3,000 visas for Indians under the UK-Young Professionals Scheme.
The UK government, spearheaded by Chancellor Rishi Sunak, has confirmed 3000 places annually to degree-educated Indian nationals between the ages of 18 and 30 who seek to live and work in the UK for up to two years. India is the first visa-national nation to benefit from this scheme. The British government cited the UK-India Migration and Mobility Partnership, which was signed last year, as the reason for this development. Rishi Sunak’s proactive role in facilitating this initiative underscores the UK government’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with India and promoting bilateral relations between the two nations.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met his Indian counterpart Rishi Sunak in Bali, Indonesia, on the sidelines of the 17th G20 Summit. This was their first meeting since the first British prime minister of Indian descent assumed office last month.
Downing Street said in a statement, “The introduction of the initiative is a major moment both for our bilateral relationship with India and for the UK’s wider commitment to building better linkages with the Indo-Pacific region to enhance both our economies.” a statement from The Downing Street.
According to the report, the United Kingdom has closer ties to India than any other nation in the Indo-Pacific. Indian students account for about a quarter of all overseas students studying in the UK, while Indian investment in the country directly sustains 95,000 jobs across the country.
